Each chapter ends with principles that distil what you have learned and a proposal for putting it into practice. There are 75 in all, supported by the book’s cases and exercises. Here are six ways to get started.
Provide context, check that you share priorities and agree what each person can decide. Learn to ask for proposals before offering solutions, and prepare someone to take on part of your work while you focus on the future.
Use AI to prepare proposals, build prototypes and test ideas, while reviewing its results. You will also learn to organise knowledge so a new team member can get up to speed sooner and learning does not depend on you.
Divide a project into at least two phases, identify where work is piling up, and end meetings knowing who will do what and by when. The challenge: measure your delivery time and work to reduce it by 10% over six months.
Start with who will use the outcome and what they need to do, turn those needs into user stories, and define a first version that lets you test the idea. Examples include a farm, a house and an excavator configurator.
Consider what your colleagues, managers, clients and suppliers gain from working with you. Learn to make your contribution visible and build trusting relationships that help you grow with others, while developing your professional skills and how you treat people.
